A short drive later and we arrived at yet another bridge on the Tiverton Branch Line,Brown's Bridge. This lovely bridge is made mainly from stone blocks rather than the mainly brick built bridges that we had seen nearer to Tiverton.

I think that they must have had better drainage in place when the trains were running,as the track bed is very wet and marshy around here. The bridge itself is in good condition and fits pleasingly into it's location. After having a good look at the bridge,we set off down the line passing a solar farm on our way,to the last major bridge on the line,Fisher's Bridge.

The line down to Fisher's bridge becomes overgrown and very boggy, but eventually we made it to the bridge. This bridge is the same type of wide span bridge that we had seen earler and was obviously built for the farmer to move livestock across from fields cut in half by the building of the railway. The bridge is in okay condition, but there are cracks in the wall and some of the brickwork could do with repair.

Due to the fact that the ground was becoming very boggy and that the line has been blocked by a large pile of bales and rubbish,we turned back and drove down the road to investigate Tiverton Junction.

News From Down the Line

newslogo44Every now and then when I talk to people and they hear of my interest in the Exe Valley Railway, they tell me little bits of information or recall an old memory. It always amazes me how even today, more than 50 years after it's closure, the fondness with which people remember the railway and how fresh the memories seem to be to them.

This little section of the website is to pass on to you these little "titbits" and any other small pieces of information that I have come across.

- LATEST NEWS-

24/4/19These interesting pictures of Dulverton Station were sent in by Fred Gillard, who visited in about 1970 to take some pictures for a model railway project that he was building. The station buildings were bought by the Carnarvon Arms (now closed down) and used as staff and overflow guest accommodation, before being converted into residential housing. Thank you very much Fred for taking the time to share your pictures.
