Every bridge we have seen so far has a name other than this next one that doesn't seem to have any name.Despite spending a lot of time studying maps,I have been unable to find the name of this bridge on any of them,so I hereby give this bridge the temporary name of,"Wobbly Bridge".If you go and visit this bridge you will see why I have named it so,as this bridge is rather worryingly wobbily.

The brickwork is not in great condition with many parts missing the mortar and there are quite big cracks here and there.I know if I was the farmer,I would be quite worried about driving my tractor over this bridge and would think twice even about driving a car over it.

Another short stroll from here and you come to another of the Tiverton Brach Line's peculiarities and only stop along the line,Halberton Halt.I use the word peculiar, as Halberton Halt was built underneath the road bridge. As already mentioned, the line was originally built to be a double track broad gauge line and it was this extra unused space that was used to build the 109 foot long platform on.

Although the halt did have a waiting shed for passengers, the arch of the bridge gave people even more protection from the elements.

News From Down the Line

newslogo44Every now and then when I talk to people and they hear of my interest in the Exe Valley Railway, they tell me little bits of information or recall an old memory. It always amazes me how even today, more than 50 years after it's closure, the fondness with which people remember the railway and how fresh the memories seem to be to them.

This little section of the website is to pass on to you these little "titbits" and any other small pieces of information that I have come across.

- LATEST NEWS-

24/4/19These interesting pictures of Dulverton Station were sent in by Fred Gillard, who visited in about 1970 to take some pictures for a model railway project that he was building. The station buildings were bought by the Carnarvon Arms (now closed down) and used as staff and overflow guest accommodation, before being converted into residential housing. Thank you very much Fred for taking the time to share your pictures.
