The Destruction of Tiverton's Rail Heritage
To make way for the new road, the site of Tiverton Station was completely levelled and I believe this is when the platforms were destroyed. The building of the new road also meant that the iconic road bridge linking Canal Hill with Station Road was also destroyed. For me it is always very sad thinking of this old Victorian bridge being smashed up,as I have seen it in so many pictures and is so familiar to me.
Tiverton Museum's pictures showing the old bridge and the levelling of the Tiverton station site.
The first picture shows Tiverton Staion in 1967 with the old bridge in the background.I couldn't resist showing John's lovely picture of the bridge again and the last picture shows the new road layout today.
